Joe Schmidt believes a victory over England on Sunday would represent Ireland’s ‘best victory’ under his stewardship.

The 49-year-old New Zealander has been Ireland’s head coach for the past 22 months and led the side to glory in last season’s Six Nations.

Both England and Ireland have started the 2015 campaign with a brace of victories and this weekend’s meeting in Dublin will probably decide which country wins this year’s Six Nations title.

The Irish have won their last nine internationals and Schmidt said: "It would be the biggest win we've had so far, without a doubt.

"The position we're in, what we've got to play for, the year that's it’s in, the players that have come in and out of the squad.

It would be the biggest win we've had so far, without a doubt.

“For all these reasons, there's a number of things that it would be great to give that confidence to the players, to know that they're capable of doing it.

"Also, for us, it will be a massive game because we have had unbelievable support at the Aviva."

England edged past Ireland 13-10 at Twickenham in last year's Six Nations but Schmidt's team have not lost at home since falling to New Zealand in November 2013.

Schmidt went on: “To be absolutely honest, we'll find out on Sunday whether we're good enough now.

"We've worked hard this week, we're going to role up our sleeves on Sunday and try to manufacture enough opportunities that we can get that fine margin to swing in our favour."
