England must be confident against France says Chris Robshaw

After being beaten 30-3 as England captain in Cardiff in 2013, Chris Robshaw punched the air with delight

Chris Robshaw has urged his England team-mates to go into their big Six Nations date with France with as much swagger as possible.

Stuart Lancaster's men are embroiled in a three-team battle for the title, ahead of Ireland and Wales on points difference going into the final set of fixtures.

Old rivals France stand in the way for England, although they know victory might not even be enough to lift the trophy with Ireland and Wales still able to overturn their disadvantage of four and 25 points respectively.

England will be seeking their fifth consecutive win as well as the chance to be crowned as Europe's leading side in a World Cup year, when that tournament will be on home soil as well.

Big prize

"It's about being confident, having that swagger in our step and saying 'yes, we are back at home and we want to put in a great performance'," the England captain said.

"All the guys are extremely excited and desperate to get that bit of silverware at the end, that significant trophy that we haven't managed to get.

"We've picked up little bits here and there, but of course we want to get the big prize at the end. Having gone so close in recent years has been tough for myself and the other guys involved. As a player you want to be picking up silverware.

"Unfortunately that's eluded us a couple of times. We've collected the odd bit here and there, but to finally pick up the main trophy would be great.

"In terms of going into a World Cup, I think the most important thing is that we win, being at home.

"Over the last four games we've had some good wins at Twickenham, so it's about building on that momentum."

Leaning on the past

Points difference has not been England's friend in back-to-back runners up finishes and they have been taking the experience, especially from the 30-3 rout by Wales two years ago, as an influence for their preparations this week.

"In 2013 we were a lot of young guys going into that week, not really knowing what to expect. We were a little bit naive and played the game too early in our minds," Robshaw added.

"This time we need to make sure that we play the game on Saturday at 5pm and making sure we get that right is a big thing for us.

"We've come a long way since that day in Cardiff. If you look at the way we're playing - going to tough places, scoring tries - we're creating a lot of opportunities. Sooner or later the gates are going to open and we'll be finishing a lot of them."
