Newport Gwent Dragons forward Andrew Coombs has been handed a three-week ban after being cited for allegedly stamping on an opponent's head.

The Wales player was reported following the incident with international colleague and fellow lock Alun Wyn Jones during Friday's 17-15 PRO12 defeat at home to Ospreys.

Coombs appeared before an independent three-man disciplinary committee in Dublin, where the panel viewed footage and heard representations made by, and on behalf of, Coombs.

But they decided to uphold the citing, meaning the 29-year-old will miss the Dragons' next three PRO12 games against Glasgow, Treviso and the Scarlets.

"In imposing a suspension of three weeks, the committee took into account the various mitigating factors, including the player's apology to his opponent and his previous good disciplinary record," a PRO12 statement read.

"Andrew Coombs is free to resume playing on Monday October 6, 2014 and has the right of appeal."
