Winger Cory Janes faces long spell on sidelines
World Cup winner Cory Jane could miss the entire Super Rugby season after discovering he requires knee surgery.
The All Blacks' winger, who plays for New Zealand franchise Wellington Hurricanes, tore an anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training on Thursday.
The 29-year-old underwent a scan on Friday and the Hurricanes are now waiting to hear the extent of the injury.
A statement by Hurricanes' coach Mark Hammett read: "It is devastating for Cory to have suffered this serious injury when he was looking so strong for this season following such a successful 2012.
"We know that CJ is focussed and dedicated to his rehabilitation. So he will be committed to working hard in his recovery to come back better and stronger.
"This is not the news we wanted to hear at the start of the season and we acknowledge the loss of a world-class player."
The Super Rugby season starts later this month with the Hurricans opening their account on February 23 when they welcome the Auckland Blues to Wellington.
