All Black out of World Cup

New Zealand international Jason Eaton has been ruled out of the World Cup.

New Zealand international Jason Eaton has been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering knee ligament damage playing for his club.

The All Blacks lock landed awkwardly playing in the Hurricanes' Super 14 victory over the Highlanders on Friday.

With the Rugby World Cup getting underway in France at the start of September, the 24-year-old looks set to be sidelined for six months.

Eaton said: "Obviously, I'm very disappointed. I'm seeing a surgeon next week and we will take things from there.

"My focus will be on getting through the rehab work so that I'm in good shape for the start of the 2008 Super 14."

Eaton follows fellow international second-rowers James Ryan (knee) and Chris Jack (hamstring) onto the sidelines for the rest of the Super 14 campaign.
