Bath suffer double suspension

Bath duo David Barnes and Andrew Higgins have been suspended for two weeks.

Bath have been hit by a double blow after a court hearing ruled that Andrew Higgins and David Barnes should be banned for two weeks.

Higgins was sent off in the recent derby win with Gloucester after he committed two cynical fouls in the space of 15 minutes.

First, the versatile back saw yellow for a high tackle on James Simpson-Daniel, and then he produced a dangerous trip on Mike Tindall within five minutes of returning to the pitch.

Barnes' indiscretion occurred a week earlier, after he was cited for striking an opponent in the Powergen Cup clash with the Ospreys.

Both players pleaded guilty, and their punishments mean they will be absent from the Heineken Cup openers against Leinster and Bourgoin.
