Wales call up uncapped Jones

Six Nations champions Wales have called up uncapped Scarlets lock Adam Jones.

Six Nations champions Wales have called up uncapped Llanelli Scarlets lock Adam Jones into their squad as cover for Jonathan Thomas, who is doubtful for next month's tournament opener because of a hamstring injury.

Jones has yet to make his senior debut for Wales but has represented his country at junior levels and his recent performances for the Scarlets have impressed coach Mike Ruddock.

Ruddock said: "Having spoken to (Llanelli coach) Gareth Jenkins about Adam, we are both of the same opinion that he has really started to fulfil his potential and is moving in the right direction.

"We feel we need cover in his position, with the injury to Jonathan and Ian Evans already ruled out through suspension and have every confidence that he has the ability to meet the challenge of international rugby if called upon."

Thomas re-injured his right hamstring during the Ospreys' Heineken Cup clash against Stade Francais last Friday and is having his latest setback assessed.
