Scotland look to build in Saturday's Test against Canada

Scotland will be looking to build on last weekend's 24-6 win over USA when they take on Canada in Saturday's Test.

The clash at the BMO Field in Toronto is the second of four Test matches in Scotland's summer series, with games against Argentina and South Africa coming up later this month.

Head coach Vern Cotter has made four changes to his starting XV, with two enforced - lock Grant Gilchrist and centre Peter Horne replacing the injured Jim Hamilton (ankle) and Duncan Taylor (calf).

The remaining changes see Kelly Brown and Moray Low replace last week's debutant back-row Blair Cowan and prop Geoff Cross, who start on the bench.

Cotter has made two further changes to the replacements, with Alex Allan and Pat MacArthur replaced by Kyle Traynor and the uncapped Kevin Bryce.

The Scotland boss is expecting a tough challenge, saying: "We know we have a good team against us that are very attack-minded.

"They carry a lot, they'll run from their own half and they have very big ball carriers that get good support, which makes them a hard team to steal ball from when they start going forward.

"We're anticipating longer phases of play so we'll have to stay disciplined, and we'll have to keep our structure and our shape in defence.

"Heads up rugby is something we will be encouraging at all times, in attack and defence.

"It's important that the players are always taking on information and using that to seek, create and exploit opportunities.

"We've had a little bit more time to work together, look at some new combinations and increase the cohesion of the team so it's important we step up.”

Bounce back

The Canadians are looking to bounce back from a 34-25 defeat to Japan on Saturday when they surrendered a 25-9 halftime lead.

Canada's captain Tyler Ardron, who plays his club rugby with Ospreys, said: "We are a Tier 2 nation, and we play nations that are ranked well above us, and sometimes you can just have a team play better rugby than you and you can accept that.

"But in a game like that (against Japan), we were up so many at half, and it was just the inexperience around little things and we weren't able to close the game out.

"You bring that forward but at the same time, you try to forget as well. There's a completely new challenge, we've got another team of full professionals, and they played an exciting game of rugby last weekend."

Canada head coach Kieran Crowley has made three changes to his starting side following the defeat.

Aaron Carpenter slots into the front row at hooker, Jebb Sinclair will make his first appearance for Canada this year at blindside flanker after missing the Japan game with a leg strain, while scrumhalf Phil Mack also gets the nod.
