Argentina forward Pablo Matera has been found not guilty after being charged with eye gouging in their clash with South Africa last weekend.

Flanker Matera was accused by Springboks opposite number Francois Louw early in the second-half of the match South Africa won 22-17.

The incident went unnoticed by referee Steve Walsh and the television match official could find no evidence of gouging during video replays.

That decision was upheld by judicial officer Terry Willis on Thursday, Willis saying he was not satisfied there had been any contact with Louw's eyes.

The verdict frees Matera to be included in the yet to be announced Pumas squad for their away Tests against New Zealand on September 7 and Australia a week later.

Matera's back-row team-mate Leonardo Senatore, accused of biting by South Africa lock Eben Etzebeth, will learn his fate later on Thursday as well.
