Toulon's decision to retain the services of Gavin Henson has been welcomed by team-mate Jonny Wilkinson.

Toulon keen to move on after 'misunderstanding'

Jonny Wilkinson is pleased that Toulon quickly rectified the 'difficult situation' surrounding Gavin Henson after it was confirmed that the Wales international would not be sacked. It had been reported that double Gram Slam-winner Henson, who only joined the French club on a short-term contract in February, would be axed following an alleged nightclub brawl with team-mates in the aftermath of a victory over Toulouse. But, having already suspended the 29-year-old for one week, Top 14 outfit Toulon surprisingly announced in a statement on Monday that they would be reinstating the Welsh centre to their squad. The fracas was thought to have erupted after Henson angered team-mates by criticising World Cup-winning England international and club colleague Wilkinson, but new evidence was brought to the attention of president Mourad Boudjellal. Wilkinson, who moved to the Cote d'Azur two years ago, has consequently described the whole affair as a 'misunderstanding' and wants to concentrate on helping Toulon towards future success. The Englishman told skysports.com of Henson: "He is a really good guy, he works hard, he has been doing great since he came in terms of performances. "There was a bit of a misunderstanding and a difficult situation, which has been, rightly, quickly rectified and allows everyone, including Gavin, to be able to move on and get back to what everyone knows is important, which is playing as a team and getting the best out of each other." Henson has only played twice for Toulon, a try-scoring debut against Stade Francais and a second appearance in the win over Toulouse.
