Scrum-half joins on initial one-month deal

Exeter have moved quickly to bolster their scrum-half options by signing James Honeyben on loan. Honeyben arrives at the Chiefs from Blackheath after both Junior Poluleuligaga and Garrick Cowley picked up minor knocks. The 24-year-old has previously played at Wasps, making eight appearances last season before moving to Blackheath. However, Honeyben has been offered another crack at the Premiership and although he has initially only signed for a month, a longer contract could be on offer if he impresses. Chiefs coach Rob Baxter told the club's official site: "We have signed him for a month on a short-term loan deal to help us cover the injuries we are having with a couple of our scrum-halves. "Junior still has a slight hamstring problem and we are unsure how Garrick will come through for this weekend, so we have moved quickly. "James was available; he has a good pedigree; and now we are quite happy to give him an opportunity for him to show us what he has got. "He may well come into the squad for this weekend, but even if he doesn't he will probably feature next Monday night in the A League game [against Saracens] and as far as I am concerned he has a great opportunity now to try and win a full-time place in the squad."
