Lock signed as cover for injured Horwill

Queensland Reds have completed the signing of former Wallaby forward Radike Samo as cover for injured captain and lock James Horwill. The Fijian-born 33-year-old will join the Super 14 outfit for the remainder of the season. Samo, who made his Test debut for Australia back in 2004, has been playing in Japan after a stint with Stade Francais in France. He also enjoyed a successful spell at Super 14 rivals the Brumbies and has played six internationals to date. Coach Ewen McKenzie confirmed his fourth-placed Reds have been talking to Samo ever since Horwill suffered his season-ending knee injury. "We always knew we'd be walking a bit of a tightrope in the lock position until we found cover for James for the rest of the year and we'd been lucky so far not to get caught short," McKenzie said. "But with Van Humphries also injured, Radike's arrival has come at the right time." Humphries will miss Friday's home match against South Africa's Western Stormers with muscle and ligament ankle damage.
