The Brumbies are set to give summer signing Matt Giteau as much time as possible to play in the Super 14 opener against Western Force.

Australia fly-half rated '50:50' to face former team-mates

The Brumbies are set to give summer signing Matt Giteau as much time as possible to play in the Super 14 opener against his former side Western Force. Giteau has been struggling with a quadriceps injury and has been rated as only 50:50 to play. However the Australia fly-half has been provisionally named alongside Matt Toomua in the No.10 shirt. Brumbies coach Andy Friend admitted: "Matt's still touch and go at this stage. "You never want to leave a player like that out of the side and we'll be giving him every opportunity to play against his old side. "He's comfortable with where he's at at the moment and the medical staff has been pleased with how it's been progressing. "We'll be giving him up until the last possible minute on Friday but we're very mindful that you don't want to be risking someone like that should they not be 100 per cent ready to go." While Giteau faces a race against time, fellow new signing Rocky Elsom is expected to play after overcoming a hamstring complaint.
