Gloucester's Lesley Vainikolo has seen a charge of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent brought against him dropped.
The dual code winger appeared at Bristol Crown Court on Monday morning after an alleged attack on a man outside a nightclub.
But prosecutor William Hunter withdrew the more serious charge of GBH with intent against Vainikolo, meaning the 30-year-old will now only stand trial for the remaining count of causing GBH.
Vainikolo was charged following an incident on October 26 last year, in which a man was taken to hospital with head injuries following an incident in Bath's Manvers Street.
Vainikolo previously entered not guilty pleas to the charges.
