Supporters told not to pin hopes on Carter comeback

New Zealand assistant coach Wayne Smith has warned All Blacks fans not to expect too much from Daniel Carter following his return from injury. The 27-year-old fly-half ruptured his Achilles tendon in January while playing for Perpignan, but he is now back in action with Canterbury and has been recalled to the All Blacks squad. However, Smith has warned supporters that Carter is still regaining his fitness and will not be able to single-handedly get the side back on track. "He is not the cavalry riding over the hill to save us," Smith said. "He is a good player, we know that, but he has just come out of a rehab phase. "It's just right that we have a look at him and we include him in the camp (in Auckland on Wednesday). "We have got other players there that have been doing well and we have got to be conscious of that as well." New Zealand have come in for criticism in the current Tri-Nations campaign after an unconvincing victory over Australia followed by successive defeats to South Africa.
