David Strettle says he will try and use England Saxons' match with Ireland A to throw is name in the hat for a senior call-up.

Returning wing looking to impress with Saxons

David Strettle is hoping he may receive an England recall during this season's Six Nations. The Harlequins wing will be eyeing a return to international competition when he starts on the bench for the England Saxons' match against Ireland A on Friday night. The 25-year-old is relishing the chance to show he is back to his best after an injury riddled 2008. "You want to come in and show what you can do and you want to show what you can do on the bigger stage," Strettle told Sky Sports.

"If it's not going to be an international it's going to be on the next level and Saxons is what that is. If I can get on for 20, 30 minutes and show what I can do then I'll be very happy." Although he has not been named in Martin Johnson's Six Nations squad, Strettle is hoping unforeseen circumstances can hand him an England chance. "There's going to be players injured throughout the Six Nations and possibly players not playing as well as they can do and there's going to be a few players brought in from the Saxons," he added. "So it's all about being, as a player, ready to step up and that's what the coaching staff here and that's what us as players are trying to do, trying to move towards getting ready to make that step-up."
