England internationals Danny Cipriani and James Haskell have been told they have until the end of December to sign new Wasps deals.

England pair Cipriani and Haskell given contract deadline

Danny Cipriani and James Haskell are set to be offered new deals by Wasps but will have to sign them by the end of the month. The club's new owner Steve Hayes does not want contract issues running into the new year as rival clubs would then be able to negotiate with the two England internationals from January 1. A number of clubs across Europe would be interested in signing the highly-rated pair, meaning they could demand a considerable salary elsewhere. However Wasps chief executive Tony Copsey believes both players will remain at Adams Park. "I am confident that Danny and James will be staying with us," Copsey told The Guardian. "We have been talking to them regularly and, while there is no pressure on anyone, we would like to have the contracts dealt with by the end of the month. We are in good financial shape with Steve taking over the ownership and we are bucking the current trend." Wasps have been suffering from a difficult spell this season after being the stand-out English club over the past five years. They are hoping that the re-signing of Haskell and Cipriani will lift the squad. "Wasps has been and will continue to be about the people," Hayes said."We want to ensure that we keep and attract the best players to ensure we maintain the success that has been seen over the last decade."
