Perpignan hooker attempts to overturn 18-week ban

Perpignan hooker Marius Tincu will go before an independent appeal committee on Wednesday as he looks to overturn his 18-week ban. Tincu was hit with the lengthy suspension after being found guilty of "making contact with the eye/eye area" of Ospreys prop Paul James in the Heineken Cup clash on October 18. The decision to ban Tincu let Perpignan furious, who have threatened to withdraw from the Heineken Cup unless the decision is overturned. Romanian international Tincu will now face a committee chaired by Rod McKenzie (Scotland) and also comprising of Achille Reali (Italy) and Chris Quinlan (England). Should Tincu fail in his appeal he faced being banned until the start of March.
