Scotland captain Mike Blair has spoken of his honour at being nominated for rugby union's most prestigious individual award.
The scrum-half has been nominated for the International Rugby Board Player of the Year award, which will be announced in London on 23rd November.
The 27-year-old features on a short-list of five which also includes Wales duo Ryan Jones and Shane Williams, New Zealand's fly-half Dan Carter and Italy skipper Sergio Parisse
His nomination comes after he skippered Scotland to Calcutta Cup glory against England and a historic first victory in Argentina, as well as helping Edinburgh achieve their highest ever finish in the Magners League of fourth.
Really honoured
He said: "I'm really honoured to have been nominated.
"I really enjoyed the season and there were three highlights that really stood out; Edinburgh's development, the win over England and the second Test victory in Argentina.
"I'm pleased to be put up for the award alongside such notable players.
"Hopefully, I can play well this season and experience more wins in Edinburgh and Scotland colours."
Scotland head coach Frank Hadden backed Blair's nomination and believes the player fully deserves the recognition.
Hadden said: "This reflects that throughout last year Mike played at a consistently high level and fully deserves to be nominated for this prestigious award."
