England fly-half denies injuring Wales flanker

England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson will not be cited despite allegations that he injured Wales flanker Jonathan Thomas with a dangerous tackle. Wilkinson appeared to catch Thomas around the head with his arm in the 13th minute of the 26-19 RBS Six Nations defeat to Wales at Twickenham. Thomas left the pitch dazed and with blood seeping from his mouth but the Welsh did not question the validity of the tackle and it has not attracted the attention of match citing commissioner John West. Wilkinson has denied that he was at fault for Thomas' injury, writing in The Times: "There has been speculation that it was my tackle that led to it.

Sad

"I feel that it was not my tackle and I would add that it is always very sad to see a player going off injured. I am firmly against foul play in the game." It means Wilkinson will be available for Sunday's clash against Italy in Rome - however the Newcastle fly-half admits his performance against Wales means his place in the side is no longer guaranteed. He added: "I hate to talk about speculation over selection, but I realise that this has become a talking point. "My attitude to this is that you can't waste energy thinking about it. "Being picked is fantastic, but if I'm not deemed the best person, then I'd understand."
