Dai Young: Lamented the number of mistakes from his Wasps in the cup defeat

Wasps head coach Dai Young was "hugely disappointed" with his side's performance despite their brave fightback against Saracens in the LV= Cup.

The hosts looked down and out at Adam's Park when they fell 24-7 behind with around 17 minutes to play, only for them to produce a late rally.

Neil Cochrane and Ben Jacobs crossed for tries and Saracens had to hang on grimly in the final stages to open their campaign with a bonus-point victory.

"The team showed plenty of heart and spirit to stage that comeback but I'm hugely disappointed with our performance," said Young.

"The ball was turned over by us 16 times, there were 13 handling errors and there will be no taps on the back for the players from the coaching staff. Saracens made far less mistakes and they deserved to win."

Worrying signs

Saracens crossed through Richard Barrington, Jack Wilson, Ben Ransom and Nick Tompkins but assistant coach Alex Sanderson saw some areas of concern that "need to be fixed".

"The wheels fell off at the end, we slipped off a few tackles and our set piece didn't function in the way that it should," he admitted.

"However, certain parts of our game were encouraging but there are certain things which need to be fixed.

"Our game was to put pressure on their kickers, which we did and we capitalised on that."

Saracens now face Scarlets at home next Sunday with Sanderson optimistic of his club making progress in the competition.

He said: "We have a much stronger LV= squad than in recent seasons.

"It's a competition we've never won and we'd like to win it as winning gives the club great momentum."
