Sam Warburton: On schedule to return in October after hamstring injury

Wales captain Sam Warburton has confirmed he is on course to return to action in the autumn as he continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.

The Cardiff Blues flanker picked up the injury in the British and Irish Lions defeat in the second Test defeat to Australia in Melbourne.

Warburton has been working hard with medical staff and is hoping to be back in action in October.

"The initial diagnosis was 12-16 weeks, I have been in doing rehab and we are on course for that," he told Sky Sports News.

"There have been no hiccups as yet, 16 weeks is the target, and all is going good so far."

Return

That would see him back in action for the second round of Heineken Cup matches but the 24-year-old insists he does not expect to walk straight back into the Blues' side.

"If I could get back for that sometime in October, that would be good," he added.

"It will be difficult with the Blues to walk straight back into the side, obviously you have to work your way in, but Heineken Cup rugby is great to be involved in.

"If I can get back for that, that would be awesome."

Wales open their autumn internationals schedule with the visit of South Africa on 9 November and Warburton will be keen to lead his side out at the Millennium Stadium.
