Ayr prop joins the Warriors as veteran player departs

Glasgow Warriors have added to their squad ahead of next season with the signing of Ayr prop Gordon Reid. The 24-year-old loosehead trained with the club during last season and made his Magners League debut against Ospreys on March 5. But Reid has now agreed a permanent deal with the Warriors - and will join fellow new recruits Troy Nathan, Scott Wight, Tommy Seymour and Michael Cusack at Firhill. Head coach Sean Lineen said: "We've had a good chance to get to know Gordon when he's been training with us, and there's no doubt that the necessary ability and desire are there for him to progress and do well for this club. "He's impressed the coaches and the squad not only with the technical aspects of his game, which are all very sound, but with the determination that he has to keep improving as a player. "That approach is going to stand him in very good stead as he finds his feet in the professional game, and we'll be giving him all the support he needs to hit the ground running and perform to the level we're confident he can reach." Reid, who has played for Scotland at U18, U19 and U20 level, said: "I'm delighted to have been given this chance by Glasgow and I'd like to thank Sean and the other coaches for the faith that they've shown in me. "My task now is to work as hard as I possibly can to prove my worth and make the most of this opportunity."

Pledge

And Reid's pledge to the Warriors comes as one of their veteran players takes a step back from the professional game to pursue a career with a chartered surveying company. Hefin O'Hare, who has been a Glasgow player since 2005/06, was praised for his style and professionalism during his time at the club and has capped by Scotland at A team and Sevens level. And Lineen is already aware of the presence that will no longer be at the club, who ended the season second bottom of the table on a disappointing 33 points. Lineen said: "Hef has been the heart and soul of the Glasgow team. Every time he turns up to train or play, he's been full on, and he's got a great physicality to his game "To have a man like that who expected high standards was fantastic for the club, and we'll miss him around the place."
