Former Australia captain to be assisted by Delve

The Melbourne Rebels have confirmed that former Australia captain Stirling Mortlock will lead the side in their inaugural season. The 33-year-old was always the favourite for the role, having captained the Wallabies on 29 occasions - including at the 2007 World Cup. And Mortlock, the highest all-time pointscorer in Super Rugby, is thrilled to have been handed the honour. "It's a unique challenge, but one I'm looking forward to," Mortlock said. "For us as a group we want to be competitive and do Melbourne proud both on and off the field." Mortlock will be assisted by Wales No.8 Gareth Delve, who skippered Gloucester last season before making the move to Australia. And Delve said: "It's an incredible honour, to come into a team with so many leaders who have accomplished so much in this competition and have this responsibility gives me a lot of confidence."
