Former Dragons winger joins Sharks on trial

Former Newport Gwent Dragons winger James Lewis has joined Sale Sharks on trail. The 22-year-old joins fellow triallist Rhys Crane in looking to secure a place in the full Sharks squad by impressing in pre-season. Lewis spent four years at the Dragons before and ill-fated season at troubled Championship outfit Coventry. Lewis, though, is now hoping to catch the eye of Sale head coach Mike Brewer during pre-season. "I had to leave Wales to broaden my experience so I joined Coventry," said Lewis, who has been capped for the Wales Sevens team. "The past season was a 'bit of a tricky year' for the once-famous Midlands club which went into administration: the players weren't being paid and for a spell around Christmas weren't training together. "I'm happy that it's all behind me now, and I have a chance to progress at Sale Sharks." Lewis will join Crane in the Sharks squad for the Manchester Sevens, with former Exeter fly-half Danny Gray also handed his chance to shine.
