London Irish snap up promising Doncaster back

Jamie Lennard has joined London Irish from National Division One side Doncaster Knights. The 23-year-old - who can operate at fly-half or full-back - has agreed a two-year contract that will keep him with the Exiles until the end of the 2010-11 season. Lennard finished last season as the leading scorer in National Division One, amassing 298 points with five tries, 57 conversions, 46 penalties and seven drop-goals. He has previously played for Rotherham and Worcester and Irish head coach Toby Booth is in no doubt he has the ability to prove a success in the Guinness Premiership. "Being attack minded as a club, the ability to score points is important which is why we're pleased to sign Jamie Lennard," Booth stated. "Jamie is an up-and-coming full-back and fly-half who has been the leading points-scorer at Doncaster this season. "His age means that there is the potential to add value to him and improve him as a player as we've done with so many of the young players in our squad." Lennard himself expressed his delight at the opportunity to test himself in the Guinness Premiership, adding: "This is a very good move for me, I'm delighted to be joining London Irish. "It wasn't an easy decision to make to leave Doncaster but the opportunity to work with Toby Booth and Mike Catt was too good to turn down. "I like the style of rugby that the club plays so I'm looking forward to the challenge of competing for a place in the team and to playing in the Guinness Premiership."
