Tait jnr signs new deal with Newcastle Falcons

Newcastle Falcons have announced that full-back Alex Tait has agreed a new one-year contract with the club. Tait, younger brother of England star Mathew Tait, has not played as much as he would have liked this season due to an ankle injury. The 20-year-old has been back in the starting XV recently and is considered by the Falcons as a key man for the club's future. Director of rugby Steve Bates says Tait has already shown he can play in the Guinness Premiership and believes he will only improve. "Alex is an exceptional talent who has already shown his class at Guinness Premiership level, and will only get better," said Bates, who revealed that other clubs were chasing Tait's signature. "He is a fearless competitor, and an outstanding athlete with a good boot who is very solid under the high ball. "It is therefore not surprising that there was keen competition for Alex's signature, but we are delighted that he has agreed this new deal. Tait has been happy with the club's turnaround after Christmas, and believes there is a bright future for him at Kingston Park. "There is a real buzz around the club right now, with a good core of players working hard together," said Tait. "We have really turned things round since Christmas, the team is coming together nicely and I'm excited about the prospects for next season."
