U's blow chance to go top

Image: James Constable: Came close at the death

Oxford missed out on the chance to go top of League Two following an entertaining 0-0 draw away at York.

Chances were hard to come by for both sides in the opening exchanges with York's Josh Carson seeing his effort blocked by the Oxford defence. The Minstermen were starting to put the promotion contenders under some intense pressure and their good play almost culminated in the opening goal with Carson's thunderous volley just flashing wide of Ryan Clarke's far post. Oxford finally threatened on the cusp of half-time with James Constable calling Aaron McCarey into action for the first time after earlier shooting wide of the target in the opening minutes. On the hour mark York missed a golden chance to take the lead with Wes Fletcher playing through top-scorer Ryan Jarvis but his effort was well saved by Clarke. Oxford then went close to winning the game as McCarey blocked Dave Kitson's header with a low save before Constable shot straight at the goalkeeper in the closing minutes.
