O'Kane piles misery on Argyle

Eunan O'Kane's spectacular brace earned Torquay a 3-1 triumph over Plymouth and extended their winning run to five matches.

After an uneventful first half United turned on the style to record a first league win over their struggling neighbours since April 1972. Irish playmaker O'Kane bought the game to life with a superb 47th minute strike from 18 yards that flew into the far corner from the left after Argyle failed to clear Rene Howe's cross from the right. O'Kane doubled Torquay's lead two minutes later with a sublime long distance chip that floated over visiting keeper Romain Larrieu, the assistant Plymouth manager. United forged further ahead when left winger Danny Stevens swept through the back-tracking greens defence to drill home from inside the penalty area. O'Kane may well have ended the match with a hat-trick after superb work by Stevens but fired narrowly wide wide with Larrieu beaten. Basement boys Argyle - whose visit Southern League Stourbridge in an FA Cup replay on Tuesday - gained some late consolation against their Devon derby rivals with a 78th minute goal, crafted by on-loan Blackpool striker Craig Sutherland and finished by Will Atkinson from close range.
