Dimitri Payet's late winner handed Marseille a 3-2 win at Montpellier to further boost their Europa League chances on Friday night.

Mathieu Valbuena had put OM ahead but Remy Cabella equalised just after half-time before Andre-Pierre Gignac handed the visitors back their lead.

Morgan Sanson then levelled things up again with 11 minutes to play but Payet struck nine minutes later to hand Jose Anigo's men all three points.

The win moves Marseille to within four points of St Etienne in fourth.

Andre Ayew had a chance to put the visitors ahead after just five minutes when he got on the end of a Valbuena corner but his header went over the bar.

Ayew had another chance midway through the half and this time he hit the target but goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren was equal to his shot.

Marseille were dominating proceedings and Joudren was called into action once again as he saved a Gignac header.

The goal eventually arrived four minutes before the break and it was worth the wait as Valbuena finished off a slick passing move with a lobbed finish.

But the leveller landed just two minutes after the break as Anthony Mounier and Garry Bocaly combined to find

Cabella who volleyed home.

Marseille were back ahead in the 57th when Saber Khalifa cross took a touch off Mounier and fell nicely for Gignac who cut inside and fired home.

Both sides were attacking and when M'Baye Niang found Cabella his shot was saved by Steve Mandana but Sanson was on hand to slot home the rebound.

The game looked set to be heading for a draw but it was a slice of good fortune that handed Marseille the win as Payet's shot took a deflection off Hilton and looped over Joudren and into the net.
