Montpellier extended their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to eight games after they drew 1-1 at home to Evian

Montpellier extended their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to eight games after they drew 1-1 at home to Evian despite being reduced to 10 men. Evian, playing in their 100th game in the French top flight, were unable to bring to an end their own eight-game winless run, as Kevin Berigaud's opener was cancelled out by Remy Cabella just before the break, with the scoreline remaining deadlocked even after Siaka Tiene saw red in the 68th minute. The result leaves Evian just four points clear of the bottom three in 17th place, while Montpellier remained in 14th, five points to the good. Montpellier started the brightest and wasted two good chances before the 20-minute mark. Morgan Sanson released Souleymane Camara with a clever chip and he rolled the ball into Cabella's path, but only a last ditch Cedric Mongongu tackle prevented a certain goal. Cabella then caught Evian on the counter-attack and released Camara, who rolled the ball into Mamadou Niang's path, but he missed the ball from six yards out. Therefore, it came as something of a surprise when Evian took the lead in the 33rd minute after Cedric Barbosa found Berigaud from a corner. The midfielder smashed a first-time half-volley through a crowd of players and beyond Montpellier goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren from the edge of the area. Tiene almost offered an instant response for the home side but he curled a 25 yard free-kick just over Bertrand Laquait's bar. However, Montpellier equalised 10 minutes later through Cabella after Anthony Mounier raced down the right and cut the ball back to the midfielder, who slotted in at the far post. After the break, Marco Ruben was wasteful for Evian before Tiene was sent off for his second yellow card of the game following a clumsy challenged on Berigaud. Montpellier then went close through a Cabella volley and Hugo Montano effort, with an 86th-minute free-kick from Mounier striking the crossbar from 25 yards out.
