    Losing feeling for Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce suffered their first defeat in this season's Europa League after losing to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Goals by Tolga Cigerci, Mike Hanke and Luuk de Jong guided Borussia Monchengladbach to an emphatic victory at Fenerbahce as the visitors inflicted the first defeat of this season's Europa League on the Group C winners. Both sides had already qualified for the knockout stages before tonight, Fener in style with 13 points from five games but any party became a damp squib in Turkey. Fener had the first real attempt on goal when Selcuk Sahin's 25-yard shot from the right was tipped over by Christofer Heimeroth. Both sides fired over before the visitors almost took the lead when Hanke fired in on goal from close range only for Fehmi Mert Gunok to tip the ball round the post. Heimeroth was then called upon to thwart Milos Krasic as both teams continued to attack but it was Monchengladbach who went ahead in the 22nd minute. Peniel Mlapa sent in a pass from the right, the ball finding Cigerci who curled into the top right-hand corner, his first goal for the Bundesliga side. The visitors doubled the lead seven minutes later when Henri Bienvenu was penalised for a foul on Granit Xhaka with Hanke firing the resulting spot-kick high into the top corner. Ozgur Cek, Miroslav Stoch and Egeman Korkmaz all had efforts for Fener before half-time but could not find their way through. Egemen Korkmaz drew a save from Heimeroth as did Orhan Sam but the visitors underlined their danger when Gunok was forced to parry Alexander Ring's fierce effort from the left and the keeper was called upon again minutes later when he tipped Mlapa's shot round the post. Fener striker Henri Bienvenu's shot was blocked by Alvaro Dominguez but Monchengladbach extinguished any home hopes when De Jong converted from the six-yard box 11 minutes from time.
