The Toffees fielded an inexperienced line-up in their first outing since returning to training and were deservedly beaten by a 58th-minute goal from Didier Cretterand.
The midfielder calmly finished past goalkeeper Iain Turner after playing a neat one-two to open up the Everton defence.
