Bulls edge basement battle

Sam Hewson scored twice as Hereford grabbed a priceless 3-2 victory over fellow strugglers Cheltenham. The Robins gifted the Bulls a 13th minute lead following a defensive howler from keeper Scott Brown and full-back Lee Ridley. The pair tangled as Brown attempted to make a catch sending the loose ball to Steve Guinan, whose goalbound shot was bundled in by Febian Brandy. A spate of first-half injuries saw Hereford lose defenders Josh Gowling and Dean Beckwith and the Robins capitalised to level from close range through Lloyd Owusu three minutes into stoppage time. Owusu grabbed his second after 56 minutes with a towering header from an Ian Westlake corner. Westlake then struck the post from a set-piece, before Manchester United loanee Hewson equalised, rifling home a thunderous strike after Richard Rose had touched the ball to him from a free-kick. Hewson popped up with the winner when his 79th minute free-kick deflected off the wall past a helpless Brown in the Cheltenham goal. Ridley then completed a miserable day for the Robins with a stoppage-time dismissal for dissent.
