Xherdan Shaqiri netted a brace as Bayern Munich trounced Freiburg 4-0 to move 16 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Three of the goals came before the break, as Munich cruised over the line with plenty to spare ahead of Wednesday's trip to London to face Arsenal in the Champions League.

Brazilian defender Dante headed the opener on 19 before Shaqiri added two more in the space of eight minutes shortly before half-time.

His first came from an assist by Claudio Pizarro who completed the scoring two minutes from time.

Shaqiri, however, will miss the game at the Emirates after being substituted just after the hour mark with a thigh injury.

Second-placed Bayer Leverkusen were beaten 2-1 at home by Schalke for whom Klaas-Jan Huntelaar header a 74th minute winner.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund destroyed Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on target twice inside the opening 25 minutes, Robert Lewandowski converted penalty on 47 while new signing Milos Jojic netted his first Dortmund goal as a substitute.

Dominick Kumbela scored a second half hat-trick as Eintracht Braunschweig claimed a thrilling 4-2 triumph over Hamburg who conceded twice in the final seven minutes.

The result meant the end for Bert van Marwijk who was sacked as Hamburg coach following seven straight Bundesliga defeats.

Pole Ludovic Obraniak scored an 88th minute equaliser in Werder Bremen's drew 1-1 with Borussia Moenchengladbach, and Hoffenheim outplayed VfB Stuttgart, winning 4-1.
