Reading forward Hal Robson-Kanu will miss the start of the season after suffering a knee injury in a pre-season friendly.

The Royals were held to a goalless draw at Stevenage, but of more concern was the fitness of the Welshman following a late tackle from Charlie Lee, which forced him off after just half an hour.

Manager Nigel Adkins told the Royals' official website: "We've lost Hal for the start of the season and that's something we could have done without. It's a knee injury, we'll have a better look when we do a thorough examination of him in the next 48 hours.

"It's fair to say he will miss the start of the season.

"We'd have liked the referee to get a better grip of it in the first half, and unfortunately the competitive nature of the game, there were poor challenges going in."
