Aston Villa left-back Aly Cissokho has hailed manager Paul Lambert’s focus on the side’s defending this season.

The Villans have been one of the most impressive sides defensively in the Premier League so far this season, having conceded just one goal in four matches.

The only goal that Villa have shipped in the league was in their 2-1 home win against Hull City last month, while they kept out Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Cissokho, who joined Villa from Valencia in the summer, has now praised the work put in by Lambert and assistant manager Roy Keane to strengthen the defence.

“The coach and Roy (Keane) work a lot with the defence,” the 27-year-old Frenchman told the Birmingham Mail.

“The most important thing is to defend altogether then we can attack together. The back four have done well and we also have Ron (Vlaar) to come back soon. All the team are full of confidence.

“The back four, the three in the middle, and the three in the front give everything. After four matches we are unbeaten and to have ten points on the board is very good.”
