Sky Sports understands that Bournemouth are leading the race to sign veteran defender Ian Harte.

The 35-year-old left-back is a free agent following the end of his contract at Reading, who he joined in August 2010.

Harte made sporadic appearances for the Royals during their season back in the Premier League, which ended with relegation to the Championship.

The newly-promoted Bournemouth, under the guidance of manager Eddie Howe, will be looking to strengthen their squad for their first stint in the second flight since 1990.

The former Irish international has also been linked with a return to Leeds United, now managed by Harte's former boss at Reading, Brian McDermott.
