Swindon looked slightly the better side in a poor first half and, after being denied by a 35th minute goal-line clearance by Craig Alcock, took a deserved if fortunate lead six minutes later.
Jon-Paul McGovern crossed from the left and when Billy Paynter flicked on, Forbes headed the ball into his own net from three yards.
Yeovil, decimated by injuries, were never short of effort in the second half but chances were few and far between.
Swindon continued to look dangerous and when Lescinel Jean-Francois was flattened in one attack boss Danny Wilson was ordered to the stand for being too vociferous with his protests.
Swindon should have doubled their lead on 84 minutes when substitute Lloyd Macklin was clear through but was thwarted by a timely save by Alex McCarthy.
