Wolves v Wigan preview

Wolves will hope to end a run of eight games without a win when they welcome bottom club Wigan Athletic to Molineux on Sunday

Must-win game for two early season strugglers

Wolves will hope to end a run of eight games without a win when they welcome bottom club Wigan Athletic to Molineux on Sunday. Mick McCarthy's men have not won since the second game of the season and currently sit just two points above the relegation zone. And, although the Wolves boss claims he has the board's full backing, he will be keen to ease any pressure on him following a run which has seen his side pick up just one point in their last seven games. A home win will go a long way to silencing McCarthy's critics and his side will be confident against a Wigan outfit who currently sit bottom of the table having lost their last seven games in the league. However, the statistics are in Wigan's favour as Roberto Martinez's men did the double over Wolves last season and will be desperate to pick up their first away win of this campaign. Goals have been hard to come by this season for the Latics, with only six so far in the League the lowest total by any side. Even more worrying for Athletic fans is the fact their side have only scored once away from home in their last five, a Franco Di Santo goal in the 3-1 defeat at Everton in September. But with those around the DW Stadium claiming a Wigan revival is just around the corner, Sunday's clash at Molineux promises to be a six-pointer.

Team News

McCarthy will still be without injured Steven Fletcher - the striker was poised to return this weekend but has been given until after the international break to recover from his calf injury Wayne Hennessey is expected to retain his place in goal despite costly errors in the 3-1 defeat by Manchester City last weekend. Wolves will also still be without Ronald Zubar (groin) and winger Kevin Foley (ankle). Wigan's Mohamed Diame could feature after recovering well from the ankle injury he sustained against Fulham a week ago. Leading scorer Di Santo and midfielder James McCarthy returned last weekend and will look to feature again on Sunday. Gary Caldwell is suspended for this match after receiving his fifth yellow card in the 2-0 defeat by Fulham.
