John Toshack bids to use Wednesday's friendly against Luxembourg to prepare for Euro 2012 qualification.

Llanelli fixture gives Toshack final warm-up for European campaign

John Toshack will be hoping to use Wednesday's friendly against Luxembourg to prepare an assault on qualifying for Euro 2012. Toshack's side will head into Group G as the lowest seeded side and expectations of reaching the Poland and Ukraine finals will not be reaching fever pitch any time soon. But that has not stopped the former Real Madrid boss from talking up his country's chances of challenging in a pool that also contains neighbours England, as well as Switzerland, Bulgaria and Montenegro. But before Wales get their campaign up and running against Montenegro early next month, Toshack has one final game to assess his players - albeit not as many as he would have liked through injury and retirement.

Team-news

Dave Edwards (groin), Simon Church (calf) and Ched Evans (ankle) became the latest players forced to pull out of the game in Llanelli and join Bristol City's on-loan Wolves forward Sam Vokes on the sidelines. A host of Welsh internationals were already unavailable, including James Collins, Lewin Nyatanga, Danny Gabbidon, Joe Allen and long-term casualties Aaron Ramsey and Jack Collison. And Toshack was dealt another blow with Simon Davies' decision to call time on his international career. But the 61-year-old is boosted by the return of captain Craig Bellamy and star performer Gareth Bale, while Millwall striker Steve Morison and Cardiff City defender Darcy Blake are set to earn their first caps. Wales have won all five of their previous showdowns with Luxembourg, their last meeting coming in 2008 when a Freddy Eastwood double secured a 2-0 friendly win. Luxembourg have won just one of their last 21 international matches and have only ever scored one goal in 450 minutes of football against the Welsh.
