Tie in the balance after goalless draw at Ibrox

Sporting Lisbon stand between Rangers and a place in the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup. The sides played out a goalless draw in the first leg at Ibrox last week but Rangers are confident of progressing to the last four. An away goal in Portugal could prove decisive and manager Walter Smith has admitted there is a growing expectation among the management and the players. However, Rangers' normally excellent defence conceded three goals in the draw with Dundee United at the weekend and centre-back David Weir is suspended for the match in Lisbon. Christian Dailly is set to move back into defence, while Carlos Cuellar is fit to play after recovering from a flu bug. Daniel Cousin is also available after a broken jaw but Charlie Adam remains sidelined with a knee injury.

      Polga out for Sporting

Sporting defender Anderson Polga misses out with a torn thigh muscle. Gladstone, a Brazilian on a season-long loan from Cruzeiro, is set to replace Polga. Sporting coach Bento was unhappy with Rangers' approach in the first leg and has urged the referee to clamp down on any bad tackles. He said: "Rangers are an aggressive team. We felt it in the first minutes at Glasgow. Two important players suffered heavy tackles. "It's up the referee to do his job - we just hope we can keep our own control." The winners of the tie will face PSV Eindhoven or Fiorentina in the semi-finals.
