Preston v Colchester preview

Image: Carlisle: Set for North End debut

Team news ahead of Saturday's League One clash between Preston North End and Colchester United at Deepdale.

Phil Brown is set to hand league debuts to Clarke Carlisle and Brian McLean. North End this week secured the services of former Falkirk defender McLean, signing the Scot on a two-year deal after he featured in four of their pre-season encounters. Carlisle has joined on a one-year loan deal from Lancashire neighbours Burnley while Graham Alexander has also arrived at Deepdale from Turf Moor on a one-year deal. Goalkeeper Iain Turner is looking to make his first appearance as a Preston player after spending 17 games on loan from Everton last term. Conor McLaughlin is doubtful with hamstring injury, Ian Ashbee is set to miss out with a knee problem while David Gray is definitely out with a broken leg sustained against Norwich in March. Steven Gillespie will be checked over ahead although the striker is likely to be fit. Gillespie sustained a slight groin injury during pre-season and has been monitored by manager John Ward in the build up to the big kick-off at Deepdale. Goalkeeper Ben Williams has returned to training following his worrying summer viral infection but the encounter comes too soon for him. Midfielder Andy Bond will not be risked having suffered a serious head injury in a collision with team-mate Mark Cousins during a recent friendly against Ipswich. Youngster Jordan Sanderson also misses out having broken a bone in his foot during pre-season. But there could well be debuts for summer signings Michael Rose, Tom Eastman and Karl Duguid, the latter of whom - seventh on the Us list of record appearance holders - has returned to the club three years after his departure.
