QPR coach Chris Ramsey believes his "heated" half-time talk during last weekend's defeat at Crystal Palace may end up being a turning point in their season.

Relegation-threatened Rangers trailed 3-0 at the interval at Selhurst Park, before eventually losing 3-1 after an improved second-half display.

"There was a constructive heated discussion at half-time," said Ramsey. "Our second-half performance was better.

"I think the players realised they didn't want the game to fall into a debacle for the travelling fans that had woken up early that morning to come to the game."

More from Qpr V Everton

Ramsey, whose team now face Everton at Loftus Road on Sunday, thinks his team can continue to grow from that moment.

"The heated discussion was important," he said. "It shows that people want to stay in the division and want to do well for this club. It was constructive.

"We have an experienced squad here and we have people that will try their best to make sure the other players do their best to stay focused and try to win the next game."

QPR are four points adrift of Premier League safety with nine games remaining and Ramsey wants to see some fighting spirit from his side in the closing stages of the campaign.

All in it together

"We are all in it together," he said. "The players have to pick themselves up. We have to regroup.

"The main thing is that the players are trying their best. Even the injured players are doing their all to recover and help the team."

Ramsey admits he was under no illusions as to the size of the task when he took over last month, but is grateful for the opportunity to lead a team in the Premier League, even one struggling in the relegation zone.

"You are not going to get a call from Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester City or Arsenal," Ramsey said. "You are always going to get your baptism in a situation where things appear not to be going well.

"It's a tough baptism. I think I've handled it quite well with the players. Whether we maintain this situation or not, remains to be seen.

"As far as dealing with the situation is one that I've welcomed. I'm hoping that together we can get ourselves above that line and start next season in the Premier League."
