Ronald Koeman has admitted his surprise at how quickly his Southampton players have successfully adapted to his philosophies.
All was doom and gloom when the Dutchman took over in the summer but Saturday's 1-0 win at Hull City maintained a second-place position in the Premier League.
Koeman was understandably happy after a 10th win in 11 games in all competitions but also confessed he thought it would take his squad more time to become familiar with his tactics.
Asked if he was surprised at the short period in which his players have adjusted, Southampton’s boss told Sky Sports: “A little bit, yes. But we talk a lot about how you have to control the game.
“Out of good organisation, that is always the key for teams to be successful. We showed that today.”
Victor Wanyama’s third-minute goal, which saw the midfielder capitalise on Eldin Jakupovic’s poor clearance to lob Hull’s third-choice goalkeeper from long range, decided the game.
And Koeman, a free-kick specialist with the likes of the Netherlands and Barcelona in his playing days, said of Wanyama’s strike: “I did not score a goal like this one! It was incredible.
“It was maybe the fault of the goalkeeper but shooting from that distance and with that precision was incredible.”
