Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis has insisted his side will not get carried away by the perfect start to their European qualifying campaign.

Michael O'Neill's men made it three wins in three games after beating Greece 2-0 in their Group F clash on Tuesday night with Jamie Ward and Kyle Lafferty on the scoresheet.

Northern Ireland have made their best ever start to a World Cup or European campaign and are on course to reach a major tournament for the first time since 1986.

But Southampton midfielder Davis says with so many of the players based outside of Northern Ireland, they can escape the local “hype” and remain focused.

Northern Ireland midfielder Oliver Norwood feels like they can beat anyone at the moment after their best ever start to a qualifying campaign.

The 29-year-old said: "I don't think trying to keep our feet on the ground will be much of an issue.

"It may help that we don't see the hype at home but it is great to have that again.

"People have optimism but we know there is another tough away game next month in Romania and the most important thing for us is to continue the momentum.

"It's been an unbelievable start for us because I don't think anyone could have foreseen it, especially the way the fixtures came out with two tough away games in Hungary and Greece.”

Northern Ireland top group F with nine points, two points clear of Romania and central to their success has been the goals from former Rangers striker Lafferty who has found the net in every qualifying match so far.

Davis hailed the Norwich City striker saying: "Big Laff has been excellent, he gives us that outlet and in the first three games he's been outstanding.”
