Leeds owner Massimo Cellino has assured fans that he is working hard behind the scenes to appoint a new head coach but insists he will not be influenced by agents.

The West Yorkshire club are searching for a new boss following the departure of Dave Hockaday who had been at Elland Road for just 10 weeks.

Neil Redfearn is currently overseeing matters as caretaker boss but has been told by Cellino that he will not get the job on a permanent basis.

Cellino told his club’s official website: "There are many people in football being mentioned to me and the club.

"But I can say that we will not be influenced by agents. We have people that we want to speak to about the head coach position but this will not be done through agents.

"Leeds United is a big club and there are many people who want to be the head coach but we have to make the right decision.

"We are working hard to make the right choice."

One name put forward is Alejandro Sabella, a former Leeds player who recently coached Argentina to the final of the World Cup.

The 59-year-old made 23 appearances for the Whites more than 30 years ago and told media in Argentina: "The Leeds situation is intriguing and I feel I have unfinished business with that club.”
