Former Scotland international Alan McInally has dismissed suggestions from Luis Suarez’s lawyer that the media in England and Italy are orchestrating a witch-hunt against the striker following his alleged bite on Giorgio Chiellini.
Lawyer Alejandro Balbi told local radio in Uruguay that Suarez has become the victim of a “manhunt” adding “there’s a lot of pressure from England and Italy.”
But former Aston Villa and Bayern Munich striker McInally believes images of the incident speak for themselves and accused the striker of acting like a “spoilt child”.
“I don’t know how you can even look at the pictures and think there is a witch-hunt because in my opinion he has definitely motioned as if he is going to bite or is trying to or appearing to,” McInally told the World Cup Report on Sky Sports News.
“I don’t get this perception of a witch-hunt for the simple reason that the pictures are pretty damning and I’ll be amazed if FIFA don’t somehow ban him.
He acted like a spoilt child, as though somebody had done something to him five or six minutes ago and he was going to take his own retribution.
“Somebody once said if you want to see someone’s future behaviour you just have to look at their previous behaviour and unfortunately he hasn’t learned his lesson.
“Whether you’re successful or average there is big money to be made in football and a lot of them act like spoilt brats.
"He acted like a spoilt child, as though somebody had done something to him five or six minutes ago and he was going to take his own retribution."
McInally, who represented Scotland at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, believes if the allegations against Suarez are proved, the Uruguayan should never be allowed to play at a World Cup again.
“He should be banned,” McInally said. “I don’t see him taking any further part in the World Cup and to be honest I think if the ban should go ahead I don’t think he should ever be allowed to play in the World Cup again - it’s that bad.
“This is our biggest football tournament and it was one of my proudest moments representing Scotland in the World Cup.
“It couldn’t get any higher as a football player. Everybody in the world is watching you and he allegedly does something like that. He shouldn’t play in the World Cup again.”
