Bluebirds boss reveals pride after cup triumph

Cardiff manager David Jones failed to hide his delight after leading Cardiff to their first FA Cup final appearance since 1927. Joe Ledley fired home a spectacular first half volley for the Bluebirds to confirm a final showdown with Portsmouth on 17th May, and end Barnsley's courageous run in the competition. Jones admitted his elation with the win, and revealed the day has provided him with one of his greatest memories in football "For what has gone on this year it is a fantastic achievement for these players," Jones told Sky Sports 1. "I have had promotions and been in finals but I've never been in an FA Cup final and today was a great feeling for me. "We have worked really hard to get into the final and it's great for the fans and everyone associated with the club. "I won't get 1927 (the only time Cardiff won the trophy) rammed down my throat any more."

European qualification

The Bluebirds boss also warned there would be 'hell to pay' if his side were unable to compete in Europe next season. In normal circumstances the FA Cup winners automatically qualify for the Uefa Cup, however Portsmouth look almost certain to claim a European place through their league position, meaning an extra place is up for grabs. However, a potential problem has arisen due to Cardiff not being affiliated to the English FA, although Uefa president Michel Platini has shown his support towards the Welsh club. Jones said: "Platini has come out and said if it does happen we deserve to be there. It throws open the door now. "Politically it's a minefield because with us getting to this final now there is no way they should stop us if we win it. "If they stop us getting into Europe there will be all hell to pay and I'll be first in the queue."
