Women’s Super League round-up: Arsenal suffer third straight loss

Arsenal's Kelly Smith says their third straight Women's Super League defeat is "not acceptable" after losing at home to Bristol Academy.

Goals from Sophie Ingle and Natalia Pablos Sanchon handed the bottom-side their third consecutive home loss in a week and handed Bristol a second win from four games.

Ingle turned in Corinne Yortston's forceful strike from distance to give the visitors to Borehamwood a 29th-minute lead before Sanchon coolly slotted past Emma Byrne on the hour-mark.

Their 2-0 defeat leaves the 12-time women's champions' rooted to the foot of the division following poor results against Manchester City and Birmingham, and a draw with Notts County in their opening game.

England forward Smith said: “We are obviously disappointed – losing consecutive games at home is not acceptable for this club.

“We are not clicking in the final third but we will keep fighting because the season is only four games in and we have the squad to pull us off the bottom."

Meanwhile, Chelsea goalkeeper Christiane Endler produced an excellent display to grab a vital point in a goalless draw at home to Notts County.

The Blues number one made a number of fine saves, the highlight coming when she tipped Desiree Scott’s late effort onto the crossbar, earning her side a valuable point in a 0-0 draw at Wheatsheaf Park.

Following a cagey opening, Endler saved County defender Rachel Corsie’s volley from eight yards out before the away side, who remain unbeaten from four games, squandered further chances through Jess Clarke and Katie Holtham.

Endler further denied Clarke again and Dunia Susi before her acrobatic stop prevented Canadian international Scott from giving her side the lead, and Yuki Ogimi's 86th minute free-kick flew just over the County crossbar at the death.

Elsewhere, Lauren Allison’s dramatic stoppage-time equaliser saw Oxford United snatch their first point of the season against local rivals Reading in the second division.

Allison climbed highest to head home a corner from Jemma Connor-Iommi after Reading top-scorer Fran Kirby gave the visitors a half-time lead. Kayleigh Hines levelled the score just after the break before Lauren Bruton's 82nd wonderstrike appeared to have won it for Reading.

Other WSL Two games saw Aston Villa beat Millwall Lionesses 2-0, Doncaster Rovers Bellss win away at Yeovil 2-1 and Durham grab an away victory at London Bees 1-0 at the Hive.
